Connections to the Past

(Menachem Magidor)

Even to secular Jews, the literal and physical spaces in Jerusalem mean something to many. There is a history, a narrative to these places. It is similar to others visiting the homelands of their ancestors - even if you do not "learn" anything about them or get to feel their strong presence, there is something special, almost magical, about standing in the same place that they once stood.

Like Magidor stated, it somehow gives you a very real sense of community. If you close your eyes, you may begin to imagine that you are being surrounded by your great-grandparents, your long lost great aunts and uncles, and those who came before them. Something about connecting with this land starts to fill something within you.

Sometimes it is unexplainable. It is hard to find the language to explain what connects you so deeply to these areas; but somehow, almost everyone can understand it.

And that's what makes these areas special.
